Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid is the best-known form of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid occurs naturally in our diet, for example in apples, oranges and broccoli.

Vitamin C is the vitamin that contributes to maintaining normal immune system function. Vitamin C contributes to our defences by supporting the functions of our cells. This is because vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are there to protect healthy cells and tissues. Antioxidants protect cells by capturing away so-called free radicals, which are substances that cause damage to our body and immunity.
